Men's Cross Country Takes 5th at Muddy UGA
BISHOP, GA – The North Georgia College
& State University men’s cross country team placed fifth
Saturday morning in the six-team field at the University of Georgia
Invitational, battling the pouring rains to post 139 total points
in the event.
Heavy rain and muddy conditions led to slow times at the UGA
Invitational, as six men’s teams competed on the newly
designed 8000-meter course.
The University of Georgia recorded a perfect score in the race,
taking each of the first eight places in the event for a total
score of 15 points. North Avenue Trade School was second with 60
points, while Emory University was third with 69 points and
Morehouse College was fourth with 128 points. The Saints’ 139
points is there second lowest score of the season.
Georgia’s Bejan Abtahi captured the individual title,
crossing the line in 26:43.30, while three other Bulldogs finished
within four seconds of the winner. Tyler Mattix led the way for
North Georgia for the third time in as many weeks, placing 31st
overall with a time of 29:33.30.
Charles Beusse finished six places behind Mattix, crossing the
line in 37th position with a time of 30:53.10, while Teale
Marchette was right on his heels in 40th place, posting a time of
31:05.30.
Nicholas Bava finished the course in 32:24.30, good for 49 place
in the event, while Andrew Garritson rounded out the top five for
the Saints in 50th place, crossing the line in 32:31.50, just seven
seconds behind Bava.
North Georgia returns to action next Saturday, competing in their
fourth event in as many weeks as they travel to Macon, Georgia, to
participate in the Mercer Runfit Sports Invitational, one of the
largest events in the southeast as 24 women’s teams and 22
men’s teams competed last year in the invitational. The event
will take place at the Georgia Children’s Home.
