Lady Saints Fall to 20th-Ranked Tampa 3-1

Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College
& State University pulled to within a goal late in the second
half, but fell 3-1 to the 20th-ranked University of Tampa at the
Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
North Georgia (3-2-1) fell behind early as the Tampa (4-2) came
out firing with 11 shots in the first half, including the first
goal of the contest by Courtney Evans in the 15th minute to give
the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.
Tampa would add to their lead just 18 minutes later in the 33rd
minute as Samantha Kay sent a ball past a diving Jessica English to
give the Spartans a 2-0 lead, a score that would hold true until
halftime.
North Georgia jumped on the board in the 73rd minute as Lauren
Schenk took a pass from Danielle Brannon and sent it just inside
the right post to pull the Lady Saints to within a goal at 2-1.
Tampa would put one more goal on the board in 82nd minute as
Courtney Evans sent a ball into the box and North Georgia deflected
the ball into their own goal to give the Spartans a 3-1
victory.
Tampa’s Kendall Bourdon recorded two saves in goal during
the first half of play for the Spartans, while Caitlin Fox took
over in the second half and tallied one save while allowing one
goal.
North Georgia’s Jessica English tallied three saves and
allowed three goals in 90 minutes in goal.
North Georgia College & State University returns to action
Wednesday evening, hosting Columbus State University at 7:00 p.m.
to open the 2008 Peach Belt Conference schedule.
