Lady Saints Play to 2-2 Tie With Montevallo

Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College
& State University took a two goal lead late, but the
University of Montevallo fought back and battled the Lady Saints to
a 2-2 double overtime tie Sunday afternoon at the Soccer
Complex.
The Falcons and Lady Saints took 41 shots, including 24 shots on
goal as the two teams battled head-to-head for 110 minutes.
North Georgia took the lead in the 51st minute as freshman Natalie
Douglass scored her first collegiate goal, taking a corner kick
from Casey Smith and sending it home for a 1-0 lead.
Douglass was far from finished as she struck again in the 67th
minute, scoring on a pass from Brittany Bauschka to give the Lady
Saints a 2-0 advantage with just 23:30 remaining in the
contest.
Montevallo (2-3-2) would never give up over the final 20 minutes
however, getting a pair of goals from scoring leader Kami Kapaku in
the 72nd and 89th minute of play to force overtime.
In the extra periods, both goalkeepers made brilliant saves to
keep the game tied finally end a 2-2 double overtime tie.
Falcon’s goalkeeper Corey Gros recorded 15 saves, while
North Georgia’s Jessica English notched nine saves of her
own, the second most in her collegiate career.
Lady Saints recorded 21 shots compared to 20 for the Falcons,
while both teams had six shots in the two overtime periods.
The Lady Saints (3-3-2) return to action next Saturday, traveling
to Lander University for their second Peach Belt Conference game of
the season. Kickoff in Greenwood, South Carolina, is scheduled for
1:00 p.m.
