Lady Saints Hit the Links for First Tournament
CLARKESVILLE, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
women’s golf team competed in their first-ever tournament
Tuesday afternoon, finishing 9th in the 10-team field at the 4th
Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational at The Orchard Golf &
Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event with
18 holes on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday, but the
tournament was shortened to 18 holes after heavy rains washed out
the first round on Monday.
Charley Whitmire led North Georgia with the low round of the day,
shooting a 23-over 95, placing her in a tie for 29th place, while
teammate Brittany Kemp recorded a 99, shooting 27-over-par to
finish in a three-way deadlock for 37th position.
Courtney Hall finished in third for the Saints, coming in 48th
place overall as the sophomore shot a 39-over-par 111. Amy Lewis
rounded out the scoring for North Georgia with her 58-over-par 130,
placing her in 52nd position.
Methodist University captured the team title, accumulating a team
total 335, steering them 10 shots ahead of the field as Tennessee
Wesleyan was second with 345, while Piedmont College and Young
Harris tied for fourth with 346. North Georgia shot 435 to finish
ninth in the event.
Spartanburg Methodist’s Corrine Skelly was the individual
champion, running away with the title with an even-par 72. Kelsey
McEntyre of Young Harris was the runner-up at six-over-par, while
Hollins University’s Sara Nunnally was third with an
eight-over-par 80.
North Georgia returns to action October 5-6 at the Chick-fil-A
Intercollegiate at the Stonebridge Country Club.
