Lady Saints Tame Tigers in 65-53 Victory
Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia found
themselves up 12 at halftime on West Alabama Friday evening, and
rolled to a 65-53 victory over the Tigers in the second game of the
X-Trem Shootout in Memorial Hall.
The Lady Saints used a 10-0 scoring run midway through the first
half, capped by a three-point play from Stephanie Brownlee to take
a 24-15 lead at the 5:35 mark. North Georgia would add to their
lead in the final minute as Syretha Marble gave her team a 36-24
lead at the break on a layup with 52 seconds remaining.
The Tigers came out in the second half and cut into the North
Georgia lead on a Valerie Harris layup with 15:50 remaining in the
game to make it 40-32, but the Lady Saints responded as Marble came
right back on the next possession and pushed the lead right back to
10 points with two of her 16 second-half points.
North Georgia led by as many as 18 points with 9:17 remaining in
the game as Alyssa Stokes knocked down a driving layup, but the
Tigers cut into the lead late as the Lady Saints came away with a
65-53 victory.
West Alabama was led by Harris who tallied a double-double with 18
points and 12 rebounds, while Jessie Clark added 15 points on 4-5
shooting from behind the arc.
North Georgia was led once again by Marble who ended the game with
24 points, 11 rebounds, and seven steals for her second straight
double-double. Whitney Randolph added a double-double of her own
with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Brownlee chipped in nine, and
Brooke Baker put up seven first-half points.
Both team return to action tomorrow afternoon in the final day of
the X-Trem Shootout as West Alabama (0-4) will take on
Carson-Newman at 2:00 p.m., while North Georgia (3-1) will oppose
instate rival West Georgia at 4:00 p.m.
