Lady Saints Fall at Columbus State 81-67
COLUMBUS, GA – North Georgia College
& State University trailed by just a point at intermission, but
Columbus State outscored the Lady Saints by 13 in the second half
to come away with an 81-67 victory Wednesday evening in the Lumpkin
Center.
North Georgia falls to 5-17 overall and 2-13 in the Peach Belt,
while Columbus State improves to 13-11 overall and 6-8 in the
league.
The Lady Saints were led by PBC scoring leader Syretha Marble who
recorded 22 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor in 39 minutes of
action. Meredith Montgomery was the only other North Georgia player
to score in double figures as the sophomore finished with 11
points, while Sarah Stinson and Whitney Randolph had eight points
apiece.
Phebe Smith paced Columbus State and led all scorers with 29
points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action, the only Lady
Cougar to score in double figures.
North Georgia shot 43.6 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent
from behind the arc, while CSU was 50.8 percent from the field, and
33.3 percent from long range. Both teams struggled from the free
throw line, as the Lady Saints were 64.7 percent from the charity
stripe, and Columbus was 70.0 percent from the foul line.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting UNC
Pembroke with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
