Lady Saints Fall 82-71 to #21 West Georgia
Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia saw a late
comeback fall short as the Lady Saints dropped an 82-71 decision to
21st-ranked West Georgia in the final game of the X-Trem Classic in
Memorial Hall.
West Georgia (4-2) jumped out to an early lead with strong defense
and timely shooting as the Wolves led by as many as 20 points in
the first half. Dominic Cranford and Ashley Huff combined for 29
first-half points, sending North Georgia to the locker down 51-33
at the intermission.
North Georgia (3-2) came out in the second period and continued
fall behind, trailing by as many as 25 at two different points
before starting to mount a comeback. Meredith Montgomery knocked
down a pair of foul shots at the 7:12 mark to cut the Wolves’
lead to 16 at 70-54, but West Georgia answered right back with a
pair of buckets by Huff and Cranford.
The Lady had one last run in the final minutes, as the West
Georgia lead was trimmed to seven points at two different times,
with the final push coming on a layup by Stephanie Brownlee with 34
seconds remaining. North Georgia was forced to foul in the final
seconds and Tia Jackson sealed the game, handing the Lady Saints an
82-71 defeat.
West Georgia outrebounded North Georgia 27-22, and shot 61 percent
from the field, while the Lady Saints were 44 percent from the
floor and 30 percent from behind the arc.
West Georgia’s Cranford led all scorers with 27 points,
while Huff knocked down 21 points and added three rebounds.
Whitney Randolph led North Georgia with 17 points, while Syretha
Marble had 16 and Brownlee chipped in 14. With Marble’s 16
points, she jumps into the PBC’s all-time top 10 scoring list
with 1,462 total points in her career.
The Lady Saints return to action on December 2, traveling to
Lincoln Memorial for a 6:00 p.m. matchup against the Railsplitters.
