#11 Saints Sweep Twin Bill From Valdosta State
VALDOSTA, GA – The 11th-ranked North
Georgia softball team stayed undefeated Tuesday afternoon, taking
down Valdosta State 4-3 and 6-5 in a pair of one-run games in
non-conference action.
North Georgia improves to 4-0 on the year, while previously
unbeaten Valdosta State falls to 6-2 on the season.
In game one, the Saints jumped on the board with two first-inning
runs, followed by a pair of solo home runs from Natasha Willemse
and Courtney McGuire in the two innings to follow.
The Lady Blazers scored one run in the first but went scoreless
until the fourth inning when Kristie Cornell belted a homerun to
bring in Clare Wamsley and pull Valdosta to within a run at
4-3.
Sarah Phillips would keep the Blazers in check after the long
ball, not allowing another run to give the Saints a 4-3 game one
victory. Phillips (2-0) picked up the complete game victory,
allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
In game two, offense was the name of the game as both teams put up
runs in each of the first four innings.
The Saints would start to create some distance in the third inning
as Pilar Harden blasted a two-run homer, and Hilary Cox would
follow with a single and come around to score later in the
frame.
Trisha Snider was on the mound for game two, and after allowing
five runs through four innings, the junior settled in the final
three innings to pick up the victory and improve to 2-0 on the
season.
North Georgia will be back in action over the weekend, traveling
to the UAH Charger Chillout for six games.
