Lakers Edge North Georgia 1-0 in Men's Soccer
MORROW, GA – The North Georgia
men’s soccer team came up short Wednesday evening, falling to
in-state and league rival Clayton State as the Lakers’
first-half goal was enough to hold off the Saints for a 1-0 victory
in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Saints drop their second straight league game to open the
season, falling to 3-5 overall, and 0-2 in the Peach Belt
Conference, while Clayton State improves to 5-4 overall, and 1-1 in
the conference.
Clayton State scored the lone goal of the game at the 30:07 mark as
Matthias Faublas took a pass from Kyle Timm and headed the ball
past North Georgia goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic for the
game-winner.
While the Lakers scored just the one goal, Clayton State had
chances all evening, recording 25 shots to just five for the
Saints, and totaling nine corner kicks while not allowing North
Georgia to attempt a single free kick from the corner.
David Cristofoli recorded the shutout in goal for the Lakers,
lasting all 90 minutes, while adding three saves in the victory.
Tanaskovic saved five shots for North Georgia, while going the
distance and allowing one goal.
The Saints return to action on Saturday, October 3, traveling to
Brevard College to clash with the Hurricanes. Kickoff is set for
4:00 p.m.
