Men's Golf 13th After First Round at Tanglewood
CLEMMONS, NC – The North Georgia
men’s golf opened play at the Will Wilson Division II
Southeast Preview Sunday afternoon, finishing in 13th place after
the first round of action at the Tanglewood Park Golf Club.
The three-round event, being played at the par-70 Tanglewood Park
Golf Club Championship Course, is led by Belmont Abbey after the
first round, posting a 294 14-over par. Mount Olive College is
second at 296, while Lander University is third at 297, sitting
three shots off the lead. The Saints are in the 13th place in the
16-team field, posting a total score of 312, good for 32-over
par.
Howard Duffin led the Saints, shooting a six-over 76 to sit in a
tie for 35th place, while Matt Rochlin is in a tie for 41st place
at 7-over par, firing an opening-round 77.
Jake Martin and Staley Roberts shot 79 and 80 respectively to sit
in 55th and 63rd place, while Brian Mallory rounded out the scoring
for the Saints at 13-over par, recording an 83 in the first
round.
Of the 94 players only two were under par, as Newberry's Chandler
Gruenmeier fired a two under par 68, and David Clarkson of Saint
Andrews posted a one under 69. Abbey junior Peter Tarver Jones and
Lees-McRae's Wrenn Johnson both carded rounds of even par 70.
The second round gets underway Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. at
Tanglewood Park Golf Club.
