North Georgia Drops PBC Road Game at #2 Pacers
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia battled
late but came up short, falling 94-79 to 2nd-ranked USC Aiken
Saturday evening at the Convocation Center in Peach Belt Conference
action.
North Georgia falls to 6-2 overall and 0-2 in the PBC, while USC
Aiken snaps a two-game losing streak and improve to 7-2 overall and
2-0 in the league.
The Pacers jumped all over North Georgia in the early going as
they caught fire from behind the arc and took an 8-0 lead in first
two minutes of action. USC Aiken led by as many as 21 points in the
first period before the Saints cut into the lead and trailed by 12
at halftime.
North Georgia found themselves right back in the game early in the
second period as Michael Moynihan drained a pair of three-pointers
to cut the Pacers’ lead to just seven points at 56-49 with
16:42 remaining in the contest. The Saints used one last run late
in the game to pull once again to within seven points, but the
Pacers held on for the victory.
Moynihan led the Saints with 20 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting
performance from behind the arc. LaBrian Lyons followed with 14
points, Anthony Rowe added 13, and Brody Langston fouled out with
10 points in 19 minutes of play.
Chris Commons led all scorers with 29 points and pulled down 13
rebounds for a double-double. The Pacers never cooled down from
three-point land after their hot start, shooting 52 percent for the
contest.
North Georgia shot 38 percent from the field, and 39 percent from
behind the arc while USC Aiken outrebounded the Saints 46-31.
North Georgia returns to action in Peach Belt Conference play,
hosting Armstrong Atlantic on Monday, January 5, with tip-off
scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
