North Georgia Turned Away 65-64 at the Buzzer
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College
& State University had a shot at their first PBC victory with
under 10 seconds to go, but Georgia College & State University
came up big in their last defensive stand of the night, turning the
Saints away 65-64 Wednesday evening in Memorial Hall.
North Georgia fell to 6-4 overall and remains winless in the
conference at 0-4, while Georgia College wins their fourth game in
a row and improves to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the PBC.
In front of 2,489 fans, the Saints and Bobcats did not disappoint,
locking into a defensive battle that saw both sides record six
steals and commit just 11 turnovers in the second period.
After the bobcats led the entire first half, North Georgia took
their first lead of the game, 44-43 with 7:29 remaining in the
contest. From that point on, both teams found themselves in a war
as the lead changed hands six times before GCSU survived the Saints
final possession for the 65-64 win. The Saints fought back late,
making up a five-point deficit in the final 45 seconds only to come
up a point shy.
Anthony Rowe camped out under the goal, recording a career-high 19
rebounds, just two shy of the all-time North Georgia record, while
adding 15 points in the losing effort. LaBrian Lyons came up big in
the final-minute comeback, finishing the game with 15 points in 36
minutes of action.
Ken Kemp and Graham Martin finished in double figures for Georgia
College as the bobcats won their second consecutive conference
game.
The Saints will regroup and look to pick up their first PBC
victory of the season at UNC Pembroke on Saturday, January 10.
Tip-off against the Braves, the only other winless team in the PBC,
is set for 4:00 p.m.
