North Georgia Cruises to 88-73 Win over Anderson
ANDERSON, SC – North Georgia was clicking
on all cylinders Thursday night, taking down Anderson University
88-73 at the Abney Center in non-conference action.
The Saints improve to 5-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in
non-conference games, while Anderson falls to 3-5 on the year
North Georgia could do little wrong in the first half as they
raced out to a 15-0 lead on 4-5 shooting from the field.
Andre Morgan gave the Saints a 24-point lead on a pair of free
throws with just over two minutes remaining in the half, their
largest lead of the period, as they would take a 45-24 advantage
into halftime.
The second half saw the Trojans cut into the North Georgia lead on
several occasions, but the closest the home team came was within 15
points, which turned out to be the final margin of victory at
88-73.
LaBrian Lyons continued his hot streak for the Saints, scoring a
team-high 19 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc. Michael
Moynihan added 15 points and dished out four assists, while Xavier
Trice chipped in 13, and Anthony Rowe notched another double-double
with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Brandon Young led Anderson with 19 points and six assists, while
Nick Trull added 16 points and three others finished with seven
apiece.
The Saints were lights out from behind the arc, shooting 60
percent (12-20) from long range, while Anderson wasn’t far
behind at 40 percent.
North Georgia returns to action on December 31, hosting
Carson-Newman at 4:00 p.m. in a decisive New Years Eve regional
match up. The Saints are looking to improve to a perfect 6-0 in
non-conference games this season.
