Baseball Takes Rain-Shortened Game Over Flagler
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College
& State University used a pair of four-run innings and held a
nine-run lead before the rains came and gave the Saints a 9-0
rain-shorted victory over Flagler College Friday evening in
non-conference action.
North Georgia improves to 30-23, winning six of their last seven
games, while Flagler College falls to 17-34 overall.
After Flagler was set down in order in the first inning, North
Georgia came out in the bottom of the inning and put two runners on
with walks before Brad Hall singled through the right side to load
the bases with one out. Daniel Petitti followed and delivered a
single through the left side to bring Andre Airich and Jordan
Erisman home to score, before Chad Sage followed later in the
inning with a double to right center, plating two more runs for a
four-run first inning.
North Georgia was held in check after the first frame until the
sixth inning when they started with three straight singles, and
used RBI hits from Hall and Erisman to give the home team a 6-0
lead. Sage would drive in two more runs later in the inning,
sending a triple to right center to cap North Georgia’s
second four-run inning of the contest and make it 8-0. Erisman
singled up the middle in the seventh to plate the final run of the
game before the rain came and forced the game to be called after
seven innings.
Blake Hobby (5-4) picks up his fifth win of the season, winning
consecutive starts and running his scoreless innings streak to
18.0. The freshman tossed all 7.0 innings, allowing two hits while
striking out nine.
Austin Donmoyer (5-7) suffered the loss for Flagler, allowing
eight runs on 12 hits, while walking three and striking out five in
5.2 innings of work.
North Georgia and Flagler will play game two of the three game
series Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
Michael Patton will take the mound for the Saints, coming off
consecutive appearances without allowing a run, a span that has
lasted 9.0 innings.
