Saints Fall Short on Trojan Walk Off Home Run
ANDERSON, SC – North Georgia rallied with
four unanswered runs to tie the game, but Anderson University used
a walk off grand slam for a 9-5 victory over the Saints as winds
swirled all over Anderson Memorial Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
North Georgia falls to 2-3 on the year, while Anderson University
improves to 4-3 on the season.
After the Trojans used a two-out double to plate a run in the
first inning, the Saints came back in the third inning and Craig
Brisson scored on a throwing error to tie the game 1-1.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Anderson came alive,
stringing together four straight hits, including a pair of doubles
to plate four runs and give the Trojans a 5-1 lead. In the top of
the fifth, Brisson came across again without the benefit of a hit,
this time on a wild pitch to pull North Georgia to within three
runs at 5-2.
In the sixth inning, with two out and the bases clear, the Saints
went to work and used four hits and a costly Trojan error to plate
three runs and tie the game 5-5. Brad Hall picked up the timely
base knock, singling up the middle to score Brisson and Davy
Wallach and tie the game 5-5.
With one out in the ninth inning and the bases jammed, Blair
Carson stepped to the plate and sent a grand slam to center field,
breaking the 5-5 tie and giving Anderson a 9-5 victory.
The Saints return to action at home, hosting Mars Hill for a
three-game weekend series starting Friday afternoon with the first
pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
