Samantha Silvers, Women's Cross Country
Samantha Silvers has been named the Moe’s
Southwest Grill North Georgia Athlete of the Week after leading the
women’s cross country team to a 5th place finish over the
weekend. The freshman posted the team’s fastest time of the
year at the Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational,
running the 5,000-meter course in 20:26 to finish 21st overall in
the field of over 90 athletes from 10 different schools. The
Marietta, Ga., native paced out at just over 6:30.00 miles in the
event to record her fastest collegiate time by nearly 45 seconds.
Silvers has posted three top 30 finishes this season with her
highest finish coming at Jacksonville State’s Strut’s
Season opener, crossing the line in 17 place in her first
collegiate race. North Georgia will now prepare for the Peach Belt
Conference Championships hosted in two weeks by UNC Pembroke at
Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, North Carolina.
