Casey Smith, Women's Soccer

Casey Smith has been named the North Georgia Athlete of the Week after leading the Lady Saints to a 1-0-1 record in the opening weekend of the season, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist as North Georgia sprinted out of the gate to open the 2009 campaign. The junior Peach Belt Preseason All-Conference pick led the Lady Saints storming back in the final 15 minutes against the University of Tampa in the season-opener, scoring on a free kick before assisting the game-tying goal with under 10 minutes to play to force a 2-2 tie. Smith then came out against Barry University and gave the Lady Saints the lead for good in the second half with an unassisted goal that proved to be the difference in a 3-2 victory over the Bucs. Smith continued her streak of hot starts in 2009, having scored a goal in the season opener in each of her three seasons for North Georgia, including a hat trick last year against Erskine College. This marks the first time Smith has been named the North Georgia Athlete of the Week during her career.
